Longines have joined forces again with the HNC/D Millinery students to create a bespoke hat for friend of the brand, digital creator, Julia Lundin. Julia visited the Chelsea Centre on Wednesday 12th May to brief the students. With help from esteemed Milliner Rachel Trevor Morgan, the students have taken inspiration from Longines slogan ‘Elegance is an attitude’ along with Julia’s personal style, to create a beautiful piece for her to wear at this year’s Royal Ascot.
The final piece will be chosen by Julia for to match her look for Royal Ascot, judged on technical ability by Rachel Trevor Morgan and Longines for elegance. Julia took time to meet the nine HND Millinery students, to work on initial ideas, express her opinions and agree on shapes that would suit her. Julia’s personal style is modern classic, with a luxurious edge, with the colour palette being neutral with hints of pale blue.‘It’s an honour to be part of this exciting project, to work alongside such talented people and learn about the craft of millinery first-hand. Royal Ascot is all about elegance and timelessness, which fits perfectly with my personal effortlessly chic style. After meeting the students and exchanging ideas with them, I can’t wait to see the results of this competition.’
Mentored by award-winning Rachel Trevor Morgane, friend of Longines, and milliner to the queen, the project is elevated by her expertise. ‘I feel that inviting students to create a hat for a specific client to wear at Royal Ascot will give them experience of millinery in the real world and the clients they will have when they graduate’ The collection of unique hats produced by the students, will be displayed on Longines social media as well as the Longines private box at Royal Ascot.
The prize for the winning student will be to attend Royal Ascot as Longines VIP guest, as well as Julia wearing their hat at Royal Ascot.
