Bafrin studies HNC Fine Art at the Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries.
Q1. What is your background and what made you choose to study your HE course with us?
I am Kurdish from the Middle-east, I came to the UK in 2000 to escape Iraq. I wanted to study art in an academic environment. I am motivated by celebrating the female form particularly nudes, something that is banned in my country of origin. Beauty is not something that should be covered up.
Regarding my style as a female artist, I think of myself as taboo and ceiling breaker in my country of origin and among the Kurdish community here in the UK.
Q2. Are you enjoying the course? What are the highlights?
I am enjoying the HNC Fine Art course a lot. The life drawing sessions are particularly wonderful. Also, experimenting with many different materials is something I have not done before.
Q3. What have you learnt and why is this useful in your industry? What particular skills have you developed?
I already had an Instagram account, but I was surprised that making a website was an important part of the course, I found website making skills particularly useful, I now find this easy to do.
Q4. What are you working on at the moment? What is your project about and where do you see it going?
I am working on a self-portrait inspired by Laura Knight painting a nude model, I imagine myself to be like her, it is my favourite painting at the moment.
Q5. Why choose Morley? What is unique to this course?
It is unique because of the large amount of individual contact with tutors. I also love the space that I am working in. Having my own studio for painting in is fantastic.
Q6. What is your end goal? What are your next steps? What do you want to achieve in life and how does this course support it?
I want to continue to complete the HND and possibly the complete BA (Hons) Degree. It is such a good way of studying.
Q7. What would you say to anyone thinking about studying a HE course with us?
Keeping going! You have really helpful teachers here.
